The lighthouse on the distant island has warned many a ship about the dangers of these shores known as "the graveyard of the giants". Stories are told of Russian and Japanese crewman who spent their lives as slaves when their sailing schooners wrecked upon these rocks. The Americans, who had lived here for centuries, hunted gray whales in dugout canoes - they knew well the world of giants.
