| Life and Death in the Coulees
Grand Coulee Dam turned this land to green. The depression era irrigation project filled the ancient coulees with water and brought new colors to the desert.
Cattle now graze the short grass, winter wheat waves in the wind and gliders ride the thermals that rise like ribbons from the heated hills.
Far below the blue life giving waters lie ancient Indian burial grounds that were never relocated as promised by those who brought the concrete to the desert.
The Grand Coulees - land of green and growth, promises made and promises broken, lives anew and lives lost.
